Reagan Saffle, Director of Learning Framework & Special Projects in the Learning Framework Department, has seen firsthand how Open Educational Resources can transform the student experience by removing barriers and expanding opportunities for learning. When she first explored OER, she was surprised by the sheer number of high-quality resources available, from assessments and videos to interactive activities and study guides, that rival the materials found in costly textbooks. In courses that many students take during their first semester at 麻豆传媒视频, Saffle has seen how immediate access to free materials helps students start strong, especially in fast-paced 8-week courses where waiting for a textbook can set someone behind. By eliminating the cost of course materials, students can focus more fully on learning and navigating essential college systems like email and Blackboard without the added stress of financial barriers. For Saffle and her team, OER also creates opportunities for meaningful course design, allowing instructors to adapt and combine resources, update content, and incorporate student feedback to create a more intentional and impactful learning experience. Through this work, she has come to value the flexibility and collaboration that open materials encourage among educators. To Saffle, being part of the OER movement means helping ensure that every student has the tools they need from the very first day of class, fostering a more inclusive environment where education is accessible, engaging, and designed for student success.
