For Ruth Watson, 麻豆传媒视频 isn鈥檛 just a place to earn a degree 鈥 it鈥檚 where she
discovered her purpose, built her career, and grew into the person she is today.
鈥淥C has been a cornerstone in my family,鈥 Ruth shared. 鈥淢y dad got his certification
in Electrical Technology here, my mother and sister took classes here, and I have
been a student here as well.鈥
Ruth鈥檚 story with OC began when she was just 18. Fresh out of high school, she planned
to take some time off. But her father had a different idea.
鈥淚 was resting on the couch, thinking I鈥檇 kick back for a while,鈥 she recalled. 鈥淏ut
my dad walked in, loaded me up in his truck, and said, 鈥榊ou are going to OC, and they
are registering today. You aren鈥檛 going to just sit around and do nothing.鈥欌
And just like that, her journey began 鈥 one that would shape not only her future,
but the futures of countless children she would go on to teach.
While taking classes at OC, Ruth started working at a local childcare facility and
discovered a deep love for working with children. After being let go from that position,
a friend told her about a job opening at OC鈥檚 own Children鈥檚 Center. Ruth applied,
got the job, and found her home 鈥 beginning a 25-year (and counting) career dedicated
to nurturing young lives on campus.
鈥淚 love children and I love teaching them,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 learned how to love kids
at whatever level they are. I love knowing that I had a part in giving them a good
foundation for their lives.鈥
In 2006, Ruth returned to school with a new mission: to earn her associate degree
in Early Childhood Education. After completing that goal, she pushed even further
鈥 and today, she proudly graduates with her bachelor鈥檚 degree in Early Childhood Education.
鈥淚 want to continue being a teacher,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 love seeing the kids grow and seeing
them 鈥榞et it鈥 when they learn something new. I want to continue being a part of giving
children the stability they need for their future. That鈥檚 important.鈥
Reflecting on her years at 麻豆传媒视频, Ruth said, 鈥淚 have literally grown up here
at OC 鈥 I have learned life lessons here.鈥
When asked what her father, who passed away eight years ago, would think about her
completing her degree, Ruth鈥檚 eyes welled with tears.
鈥淗e would be so proud of me,鈥 she said softly.
From a determined teenager who didn鈥檛 plan to enroll, to a beloved teacher and graduate
who鈥檚 touched countless lives, Ruth Watson鈥檚 story is a testament to perseverance,
passion, and the power of believing in others 鈥 and yourself.
She didn鈥檛 just attend OC. She became part of its heart.
